PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Do you have what it takes to be the next Betsy Ross or Benjamin Franklin? Historic Philadelphia is holding auditions this month to cast colonial interpreters and storytellers for its upcoming 31st summer season.
“We are looking for all of the history-makers that you could imagine,” said Amy Needle, Historic Philadelphia Inc. president and CEO.
She said the nonprofit is looking for first-person costumed interpreters to fill the shoes of people like Franklin, Ross, Thomas Jefferson, James Forten and Sarah Bass Allen.
Needle said costumed interpreters are trained in a school of sorts called the Benstitute, “which all of our actors go through before they ever hit the streets on Memorial Day weekend.”
Once Upon A Nation storytellers are also needed. They wear contemporary clothing and tell the story of history-makers from the American Revolution and the 18th century near the Philly site where the story happened.
Pay is $16 to $18 an hour and $14 an hour for rehearsal time. To apply, send a headshot and resume to auditions@historicphiladelphia.org.
