PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Firefighters found a “mummified” body inside a home in the Crescentville section of Northeast Philadelphia after they extinguished a fire early Monday morning.

The fire broke out around 3:45 a.m. at a house on Rising Sun Avenue, near Sentner Street. Crews extinguished the blaze and discovered the body about 20 minutes later.

Police said the body, possibly a female, was likely in the home for some time before the fire happened.

Investigators believe squatters may have been living in the house.

The Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating the cause of death.
