PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Starting next month, six weeks of overnight traffic closures will take effect on I-95 southbound so construction crews can place deck beams for the I-95 CAP project at Penn’s Landing.

On Tuesday, June 3, southbound I-95 and the ramp from the Vine Street Expressway to I-95 South will be closed between I-676 and the southbound on-ramp from Columbus Boulevard at East Morris and Water streets so crews can prep the site. The closure will take effect between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Then, beginning Sunday, June 8, the roads will be shut down overnight every Sunday through Thursday. The closures will remain through July 18, except for Independence Day weekend.

From 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on these nights, southbound I-95 will close, along with the ramp from I-676 and the inside lane of northbound I-95 between I-676 and the southbound on-ramp from Columbus Boulevard at East Morris and Water streets.

Drivers going south on I-95 will be rerouted to the Girard Avenue Interchange (Exit 23), southbound Delaware Avenue and Columbus Boulevard, and East Morris and Water streets.

Drivers traveling east on I-676 will be redirected to exit at Eighth Street and follow local detours to access I-95 South.

The $329 million CAP project aims to reconnect Old City and the Delaware Riverfront with a grassy park over I-95. Construction is expected to be completed in 2028.
