PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman was arrested and charged in connection with two suspected arsons last month in the Cedarbrook neighborhood.
The first incident happened on Sept. 21 around 7 p.m. along the 8200 block of Williams Avenue near Mount Airy Avenue.
Surveillance video showed a woman — identified as 36-year-old Iesha Jernigan — setting fire to the back door of a daycare center before fleeing the scene. Police said it appeared she ignited a can.
A good Samaritan then doused the flames with a toy wagon filled with rainwater.
A few days later, on Sept. 25, Jernigan was seen again on Williams Avenue around 10:30 p.m. throwing a torched bottle at a parking bollard in the rear driveway, causing a fire. Firefighters extinguished it.
Officials said no one was hurt in either incident, and the structures sustained minor damage.
Jernigan has been charged with arson, causing or risking catastrophe, possession of prohibited weapons and possession of incendiary devices.
