PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The second and final man who escaped from the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center has been taken into custody.

Ameen Hurst, 18, escaped on May 7 along with inmate Nasir Grant, 24.

He was arrested without incident Wednesday morning in Southwest Philadelphia, near 61st Street and Washington Avenue, by U.S. Marshals and the fugitive task force.

Authorities said Hurst and Grant cut a hole through a fence at the prison and had been planning it for some time. Prison officials didn’t notice their escape for more than 18 hours.

Grant was arrested on May 12.

There have been three other arrests connected to their escape. According to sources, 21-year-old Xianni Stallings had a close connection to Hurst. She was arrested for helping them escape. Her bail hearing is set for next week.

Michael Abrams, 21, was arrested in Berwyn on Monday, also for assisting the pair.

And, Jose Flores-Huerta, 35, an inmate in the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center, was the alleged lookout in the scheme. Flores-Huerta was previously charged in the fatal beating of a man outside Pat’s Steaks in 2021.

They all face charges of escape, conspiracy, criminal use of a communication facility and hindering apprehension.

Hurst was previously in prison for four counts of murders — including one outside of a prison down the street — and two attempted murder charges.

Officials are still investigating whether anyone else was involved in the prison escape.

Editor’s update, April 8, 2025:
As part of a plea deal with prosecutors, Abrams pleaded guilty in September 2024 to escape, conspiracy to escape, and flight to avoid apprehension. He was sentenced to two to five years behind bars.
