MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA (KYW Newsradio) — The Montgomery County woman charged with hitting and killing three people, including two State Troopers last year, is pregnant, but a Philadelphia judge has declined to postpone her trial.
In March 2022, not long after being pulled over and given a warning for speeding, State Troopers Branden Sisca and Martin Mack were out of their car helping pedestrian Reyes Rivera Oliveras off I-95 near the Sports Complex when 23-year-old Jayana Webb struck and killed all three of them.
Webb’s lawyer, Michael Walker, asked for her trial start date of Dec. 4 to be pushed back because Webb is pregnant and due in February.
“I didn't want to perpetuate more black and brown bodies in jail,” Walker said, “and so I didn't want to have her have the baby in jail.”
Prosecutors didn’t oppose the date change, but the judge declined to change it.
The judge also allowed some of Webb’s social media posts to be shown at trial.
Prosecutor Jeff Hojnowski says that includes Tweets from the night of the crash, like when “she described herself, I believe, weeks prior or a month or two prior, where she called herself ‘The best drunk driver ever.’”
Webb’s lawyer disputes Webb was drunk at the time. Authorities say her blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit, but her lawyer says police waited too long outside the mandated two-hour window to test her.
Webb is free on bail and charged with three counts of third-degree murder, homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, and related charges.
