PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Thousands of people came out to explore a pop-up Christmas festival this weekend.
The Philadelphia Brewing Company hosted their second annual Christmas in Kensington event on Dec. 10 and 11.
Jewelry, art, pins, stickers, reusable containers and soaps crafted by more than 25 artists were on display and for sale.
Attendees had the opportunity to eat food from food trucks, sip on beer, shop for the holidays and listen to live music performed by local bands.
They had ornament booths where people could make their own ornaments and, seen walking around the event were the Grinch and Krampus, both of whom attendees were able to take photos with.
Mary Grampsh, one of the organizers, says the event helps creators connect with the community.
“To be able to...bring in local vendors and get the community out to see everything is great.
Sean Malvey with Olde Kensington Boutique helped organize the festival.
He says these holiday markets are crucial for small businesses and creatives as they work their way back from a COVID slump.
Although this is just their second year, the festival has really proven to be a great help to the artists, vendors and performers, Grampsh said.
“We’ve had some vendors who started out with us who were kind of small-time and are moving to big-time now, so it feels really good to help them out with that.”
