PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — One of the arguments used by those against the use of vaccines is that people who have been vaccinated are not protected — that they get the virus. The argument is not entirely wrong, but the details are being looked over.
The vaccines that are available in the U.S. are anywhere from 68% to 95% effective once someone is fully vaccinated. This means that it is possible to get the virus, but the major difference is if a person is vaccinated, more than 95% have minimal symptoms.
The remaining individuals may get sicker but rarely hospitalized, and the chances of serious illness are dramatically reduced.
People get infections all the time from all sorts of viruses, but if symptoms are minor, the infection is just an inconvenience.
