PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It's estimated that one in six people suffer from depression at some point in their lives. Across the country, health care providers are now seeing an increase in the number of depression cases.
It is well documented that many of us battle depression at certain points in our lives. Decades ago, the vast majority suffered in silence due to fear of stigma and treatments that often were random and harmful.
For the past 30 years, there have been attempts to remove the stigma, and a growing number of people have benefited from counseling and improvements in treatment.
COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on many who have been fearful of getting help, who feel isolated and are beaten down by the seemingly endless pandemic.
If you are one of those people, reach out to your doctor.
Remember, telehealth is available if you feel unsafe traveling to your doctor's office. You do not have to suffer alone.
