PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The so-called Indian COVID-19 variant is getting a great deal of attention, but it is just one of the numerous variants of the virus.
The term "COVID-19 variant" is frightening on the surface. No matter what part of the world it is linked to or no what number and letter combination follows its name, it sounds cryptic and ominous.
The major worry is whether the virus will be more aggressive or won't respond to our vaccines. Anything can happen with a mutation, but so far, the variants just seem to spread faster, and the vaccines continue to work against them.
So, how will we know if things change? The key is testing. As long as we are battling COVID-19, we need to continue to test for the virus. It is through these tests that we stay one step — or hopefully, several steps — ahead.
Scientists are working hard to eliminate the variants in certain parts of the world. The virus is worldwide, as are the variants.
