KYW Medical Report: Where does the nation's vaccination rate currently stand?

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The emergence of the latest COVID-19 variant is teaching us an important lesson.

At least 7 billion doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been given in more than 200 countries. Another way of looking at this number is about 29 million doses are being given every day.

In the U.S., about 58% of people have received enough of the vaccine to be considered fully vaccinated. According to a site called Our World in Data, the U.S. ranks 77th on the list of world countries and vaccination rates.

Scientists are not certain, but according to the latest estimates, until we reach a global vaccination rate of 75% to 80%, the virus will continue to thrive and mutate.

There is a great deal more that needs to be done to increase education.
