Many of us just got vaccinated against COVID-19, and young people were only recently approved to get the shots.
Discussion of a booster shot seems premature and excessive, but in the fast world of viruses, each day represents an opportunity for change. Viruses constantly mutate and adapt — it's how they survive. Those that end up mutating into far more spreadable forms become the most common variants.
The problem is that vaccines designed to fight one form of the virus would need to be tweaked to prevent other forms. This is why boosters may become part of our lives, much as flu shots have for decades.
The battle is to stay one step ahead, with the goal of limiting illness and death as much as possible.
