PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Most Americans know that high cholesterol has been linked to heart attack and stroke. It's good that people know about their health, so they can take steps to improve it.
The bad news is that a new American Heart Association report has found that seven out of 10 people do not know the difference between bad cholesterol and good cholesterol.
The Heart Association wants to get the word out: LDL is bad cholesterol and HDL is good cholesterol. When a person gets their results back from the lab, they need to look at the breakdown. In other words, the more HDL you have, the better.
Both lifestyle and medications can make a big difference.
