PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Radical Hospitality is a term heard a lot around the Broad Street Ministry. It describes the empathy and care the ministry tries to wrap around all its guests, and that’s taken to another level during one of its Kitchen Takeovers.
The takeovers pair Broad Street Ministry’s in-house kitchen staff with star chefs from some of Philly’s finest dining establishments to offer gourmet meals and experiences to guests.
Larry Downey with Broad Street Ministry said it’s all about collaboration.
“What’s really happening is our kitchen team that’s here every day is collaborating with some of these really great restaurants around town and learning some new skills,” he said.
The latest chef to do a takeover was Chef Michael Ferreri of Irwin’s, a cozy Sicilian spot at the top of the Bok Building in South Philly.
“We’re able to help out the community,” said Ferreri of why he wanted to do a takeover. “I think feeding people is the most important thing you can do human to human.”
Over the course of Broad Street Ministry’s Kitchen Takeover series, it is expected to feed upwards of 500 people.
