PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — For the second consecutive year, there will be no Made in America music festival in Philadelphia.
In a statement on the event website, organizers say they’re “reimagining a live music experience that affirms our love and dedication to music and the work we do.”
The annual festival was founded in 2012 by rapper and entrepreneur Shawn “Jay Z” Carter and usually takes place during Labor Day weekend on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Last year’s festival was canceled just weeks beforehand. While no cause was given, speculation from fans ranged from controversy surrounding headliner Lizzo to high ticket prices and low sales. Organizers, however, say their efforts to make the event accessible included affordable ticket pricing.
No artists were announced for this year’s event before it was called off. In its statement, the Made in America team promised “an exciting return to the festival.” A date for that return was not given.
