PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man has been charged in the hit-and-run that killed a mother and injured her young daughter in Center City.
Police arrested Dominique Murphy, 37, of West Philadelphia. He is charged with involuntary manslaughter, homicide by vehicle, and related driving offenses.
Around 10 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said Murphy was speeding the wrong way down JFK Boulevard. When he got to 13th and Arch streets, police said he struck a 38-year-old woman and her 8-year-old daughter, then fled the scene.
The woman's two other daughters, ages 10 and 11, were with her but were not hit.
At least one witness told police it appeared the mother was trying to push her kids out of the way of the Jeep.
They were all taken to the hospital, where the woman later succumbed to her injuries.
The 8-year-old is still in the hospital with head injuries.
