MALVERN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A Malvern man who was arrested at the “No Kings” protest in West Chester on Saturday for bringing a gun, knives and ammunition to the rally, is facing more charges after police discovered more than a dozen explosive devices inside his home, investigators said.
Kevin Krebs, 31, has been under investigation since an officer noticed that he was concealing a gun under his yellow raincoat at the protest. Police discovered he also had ammunition, an M9 bayonet knife, a pocket knife, pepper spray, a ski mask and gloves, according to a criminal complaint.
Krebs did not have a registered concealed carry permit. He was arrested and charged with firearms not to be carried without a license, the Chester County District Attorney’s office said. He was released on $250,000 bail under the condition he surrender all firearms to West Chester police.
Authorities then searched his home on Conestoga Road Monday night, where they found the pipe bomb. There was a heavy police presence, including the bomb squad. Officers in tactical gear and a robot that swept the home were on the scene.
A further search of his residence led to investigators discovering approximately 13 improvised explosive devices, as well as several sketches of explosives, tactical vests and other items.
Krebs now faces additional charges including unlawful possession or manufacture of weapons of mass destruction, causing catastrophe, recklessly endangering another person and possessing an instrument of crime.
“Very concerning. You just never know what’s gonna happen where you live,” Richard Talvacchia, a neighbor, told our newsgathering partners at NBC10.
Sources also told NBC10 that Krebs had an assault-style weapon and a helmet in an SUV that was parked a few blocks away from the protest.
“I was very astounded by how much ammunition he had, and then to find out that he was right behind our home was very concerning,” Talvacchia said.
There were no injuries at the protest. Authorities have not shared possible motivations. The investigation is ongoing, and the FBI has been consulted, the Chester County District Attorney’s Office said.
Krebs is currently being held in Chester County Prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July.
