PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Massachusetts man has been convicted for sending threatening emails to Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw last summer.
According to the indictment, 39-year-old Peter Fratus, from West Dennis in Cape Cod, sent two emails to Outlaw on June 6, 2020, that contained “racist, offensive, and threatening language.” He also asked where she lived.
Fratus was arrested on August 2020. He was charged with transmitting threatening communications in interstate commerce.
“It is a federal felony to threaten another person online, whether the victim is a private citizen or a public figure,” Acting U.S. Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams said in a statement.
He faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
FBI investigators had help with the case from both the Philadelphia Police Department and the West Dennis Police Department in Massachusetts.
