PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Burlington Township, New Jersey man and the woman he rescued from an attempted sexual assault in 2019 finally met. The two were reunited at the sentencing of a Philadelphia man charged in the attack.
"She thanked me and gave me a big hug and she was crying, my wife was crying, I was crying,” said Burlington Township's John Bishop and his wife Christine, who were talking about their emotional meeting with a woman John Bishop saved from being sexually assaulted on his way home from work in June 2019.
The woman was walking along Route 73 in Mount Laurel when police say Donald Cramer Jr. of Philadelphia grabbed her and pulled her to a wooded section near the I-295 northbound exit.
Bishop, 56, pulled his car over and ran into the bushes and helped subdue the man until police arrived.
"Something made me stop. I knew that lady needed help,” he said.
Bishop and the woman met days ago when the 54-year-old Cramer was sentenced to 18 years in prison for attempted sexual assault.
"I'm relieved that guy is off the streets that he can't hurt anybody else,” Bishop added.
Bishop, honored at his job and now called a hero and good Samaritan, said he was glad to meet the woman he saved and her husband.
“I hope she recovers quickly from it,” he added.
