PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man is recovering at the hospital after police said he was pistol-whipped by home intruders in the city’s Kingsessing neighborhood overnight.

Shortly after midnight on Thursday, police said a 33-year-old man was unlocking his door along Massey Street, near Elmwood Avenue, about a block away from Paschall Park, when a suspect came up behind him with a gun.

As the victim was forced inside, two others approached. All three suspects followed the victim in the house.

A 55-year-old man who also lived there confronted the trio, and police said that’s when the group attacked him, pistol-whipping him several times in the head and back.

Eventually, all three got away, driving off in a dark pickup truck. Police said they did not steal anything.

The 55-year-old was taken to the hospital for his injuries. His condition has not been released.

Detectives are speaking with the witnesses and looking for video footage. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
