PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The fourth and final suspect charged in a shooting at a Southwest Philadelphia gas station last year, which injured a young boy and his grandfather, pleaded guilty in a negotiated deal with prosecutors on Tuesday.
Amir Johnson pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and conspiracy charges and was sentenced to 7 ½ to 15 years behind bars. Prosecutors dropped more than a dozen other charges, including attempted murder, simple assault and firearm charges.
In June 2023, authorities said Johnson — along with Keon Smith, Antwan Grimes and Kaheem Coker — drove up behind the then-71-year-old man's vehicle at an Exxon station near 61st Street and Passyunk Avenue. Then, they began to shoot into his car — while his 5-year-old grandson was next to him.
About four dozen shots were fired, investigators said.
The grandfather was critically injured. The young boy physically recovered.
Grimes, Smith and Coker previously pleaded guilty to similar charges and each received similar sentences.
