PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 37-year-old Allentown man will spend at least four years in prison after he pleaded guilty to attacking a pregnant woman who was carrying his baby last spring outside her Hatfield apartment.
Raymond Bautista was sentenced to four to eight years in state prison after pleading guilty to aggravated assault. He pleaded no contest to aggravated assault of an unborn child.
The April 24, 2025, assault in the Hatfield Village Apartments was caught on a neighbor’s doorbell camera. It shows a masked man attacking the woman from behind, kicking her in the back and stomach, and punching her in the face.
“This was an egregious case where a woman was leaving her home while she was pregnant at around 4:30 in the morning,” said prosecutor Bradley Deckel. “This defendant waited for her outside and ambushed her.”
The woman was 15 weeks pregnant at the time. In a police statement, she said when she told Bautista she was pregnant with his child, he demanded she take a contraceptive pill, but she refused.
In a statement read before the court at Bautista’s sentencing, the woman said all she could think of during the attack was protecting her unborn child.
The baby is now 5 months old and healthy. Deckel said the woman has been courageous and strong throughout this ordeal.
“She’s an incredibly strong woman who was taken by surprise and severely beaten when she was at her most vulnerable: when she was pregnant with the defendant’s child,” he said. “She’s a woman that’s incredibly brave to go to the police and has incredible resolve to continue to go through this process.”
