PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 26-year-old man was shot and critically injured outside a corner store in West Philadelphia early Tuesday morning.

It happened around 2 a.m. near 61st and Vine streets.

The man was inside the store playing a gambling machine. When he walked out, someone got out of a minivan and walked up to him.

“At which point our victim drew his firearm, had some exchange of words with the suspect. The suspect then drew his firearm, and two shots were fired, striking the victim in the stomach,” said Philadelphia Police Capt. Timothy Stephan.

He said the shooter got back in the minivan and took off.

At the scene, investigators found a mountain bike and a handgun that they said belonged to the victim. Police said he does not have a permit to carry.
