SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — One man is dead and police are on the lookout for another after a fatal stabbing and hit-and-run in South Philadelphia that may have occurred after an attempted carjacking.
Officials say 22-year-old Mang Sung was seen fighting with another man in a parking lot under I-95 along Front and Morris Streets, not far from the Target and Home Depot along Columbus Blvd. in Pennsport.
During the fight, Sung was stabbed in the neck, then his attacker ran him over with Sung’s own car: a white Kia GT. Sung was still pinned under the car without shoes on when police got to the scene.
“He was bleeding from his neck, he was unresponsive. And medics pronounced that male dead on the scene,” said Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small.
Sung's attacker took off on foot after running him over. Sources say they believe he may have been picked up by someone else nearby, but he did leave behind the knife he used to stab Sung.
Investigators are now scouring the area, looking for video surveillance and for anyone who may have seen something. Anyone who may have information is asked to call 215-686-TIPS.
