PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Mayor Cherelle Parker’s managing director, Adam Thiel, is leaving the Parker administration after two-and-a-half years.
Parker announced Thiel’s departure at a City Hall news conference on Tuesday.
“Now, Philadelphia, he reenters the private sector,” she said, “and I want to thank you, Director Thiel, for all of your public service to the people of Philadelphia.”
The mayor didn’t indicate what Thiel would do next and he didn’t speak at the nearly two-hour news conference. To replace Thiel, Parker chose someone already in her administration: Carlton Williams, former streets commissioner and current head of the Office of Clean and Green Initiatives. Williams said he was ready for the responsibility.
“You just don’t take these jobs because of the glamour. You take the jobs because you believe that you could make a change,” he said.
“Rest assured, whenever we’ve had a crisis of any kind in this city, he has been on my speed dial,” said Parker.
The mayor did not announce exactly when the transition at the managing director’s office would take place, only that it would be a “warm handoff” over the next four to six weeks.
Parker also announced the departure of city solicitor Renee Garcia, to be replaced by attorney Monique Galloway.
