Medical Report: No more midnight snacks — here's why

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The results of a new study published in the journal Cell Metabolism finds that when we eat could be almost as important as how much we eat.

According to work done at Harvard Medical School's Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, those warnings that eating late in the evening adds to the waistline are true. In fact, delaying dinner to later in the evening will add more weight even if there is no increase in calories.

The reason why is a close relationship between our sleep-wake cycle and the burning of fat.

There is another key finding: If you like to skip breakfast, don't. Skipping breakfast is also linked to obesity. Because of complicated life schedules and the demands of today's work environment, many people shift the timing of meals. This can have a direct negative impact on weight gain.
