PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The symptoms of perimenopause, the medical term for the period of time leading up to menopause, can include a lack of sleep, fatigue, mood swings and hot flashes.

Symptoms vary from woman to woman. Your doctor can help with medications, if necessary, but there are some simple measures you can do to find relief.


Hot flashes are a common symptom, and some age-old advice includes drinking a glass of water as soon as you feel a hot flash begin.

Also, avoid hot and spicy foods, and dress in removable layers. That can help when the hot flashes occur.
