PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Stress Management and Phobia Institute in North Carolina claims more than 17 million Americans believe Friday the 13th is an unlucky date on the calendar. Is it also a risky day for surgery or your health?
The date has been studied, and there is no increased risk of health problems on Friday the 13th. Except for one study, there is no increased risk of emergency room visits.
The outlying study was conducted in Britain more than 30 years ago and found the risk of being admitted to the hospital after a car accident was 52% higher on Friday the 13th than one week earlier, but the results could not be reproduced.
