PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Several new studies provide evidence that the Mediterranean diet may be even healthier for us than previously thought.
The Mediterranean diet has been studied extensively, and the American Heart Association has endorsed it for many years, but there is now growing information that in addition to cardiovascular benefits, the diet helps fight dementia, autoimmune conditions and certain forms of cancer.
The diet includes whole grains, beans, plenty of fruits and vegetables, fish, poultry, and nuts.
Perhaps what is more important is what you need to avoid: processed foods, saturated fats and excess salt.
