Medical Report: Is monkey pox a major health concern — really?

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Over the years, there have been many outbreaks of disease with impacts great and small in many parts of the world. Monkeypox is clearly a health concern, especially in areas where it is endemic.

This is a moment in time when it is important to remember that viruses are continually appearing, mutating and disappearing. Epidemiologists focus on these viruses and the approach is the same: early detection, isolation and contact tracing.

Public health efforts are essential to protecting our overall health, but we also need to realize that a pandemic like COVID-19,  while devastating and far from over, is an outlier in its impact. We are close to reducing the impact of COVID-19 much like we have reduced the impact of the flu. We have learned a critical lesson: It truly takes a village and all of us working together to the extent it is possible
