PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Has your doctor told you that you are prediabetic? There are steps you can take to help avoid diabetes.
It is estimated that 80 million Americans — about one in four — are prediabetic. This means that their blood sugar is higher than normal but not high enough to warranty a diagnosis of diabetes.
If you are prediabetic, consider it a wake-up call to improve diet, lose weight and exercise more.
According to the American Family Physician, the benefits of regular exercise can be extremely helpful and it does not have to be hard to do. Just 150 minutes of moderate exercise every week can have a dramatic impact. Walking on a regular basis is a great example.
The article also recommends yoga, which also adds the benefit of helping with flexibility and balance.
