Medical Report: A quick fix is not always the best solution

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Whether we like to admit it or not, we are a country that likes quick solutions — quick answers — even when it comes to our health. This is not always the best approach.

If a person has a headache, they want a pill to get rid of the pain. If they have a cold, they want a medication that will eliminate it.

There is a good reason for this. Over the years, clever marketing and the development of valuable medications has fueled desire as well as expectation. The problem is that, in many cases, the quick fix is not the best solution. Antibiotics do not fight viral infections. There is a slippery slope toward addiction with habit-forming pain meds.

Arm yourself with the best available knowledge, and do not hesitate to reach out to your doctor.
