PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Should sunscreen be used on infants?
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, it is not a wise idea before they are 6 months old. The American Academy of Pediatrics is very specific: Keep infants under 6 months covered and in the shade as much as possible.
If there must be exposure to the sun, it should be brief, and sunscreen should only be applied to small areas left exposed. Infants are more likely to get rashes from sunscreen due to their sensitive skin.
