PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Funeral arrangements have been made for the volunteer firefighter who died in the line of duty over the weekend in Wynnewood.

The public is welcome to attend the memorial for Sean DeMuynck on Saturday.

The 35-year-old responded to a house fire on the evening of the Fourth of July on Rosedale Road. About 30 minutes in, he sent a distress signal. He was found unresponsive on the third floor of the house.

He was taken to Lankenau Hospital and pronounced dead shortly after midnight.

A cause of death has not yet been released. The cause of the fire is also under investigation.

DeMuynck joined the Penn Wynne-Overbrook Hills Fire Company in August 2019 after moving to Philadelphia from Canada.

He and his wife, Melissa, came to Philadelphia so she could complete a fellowship in microbiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, according to a GoFundMe page, which was organized to fund funeral costs for the family.

The couple had planned to return to Canada the day DeMuynck died.

Services will be held Saturday in the auditorium of Lower Merion High School. A viewing will be between 9 and 11 a.m., and a memorial service will follow.

Lower Merion Township said no large bags or backpacks will be permitted. The public is asked to park at Suburban Square.
