Men arrested after attempted burglary turns into car chase through Delaware County

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two Philadelphia men are in custody after a car chase through Delaware County ended in a crash near Lankenau Medical Center.

Springfield Police Lt. David DiTrolio said the incident unfolded just before noon Thursday at a home on the 600 block of Yale Avenue.

“Two suspects cut a screen window on the rear of a house on Yale Avenue, entered the property, and immediately went upstairs to the second floor, where they were confronted by the homeowner,” DiTrolio explained.

Police said once the two saw the homeowner, they took off in a white Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Delaware license plate. The homeowner contacted 911.

The Jeep was spotted heading north on Route 1.

Police said they tried to stop the driver on Township Line Road, but the car did not stop. It eventually crashed at the corner of City and Lancaster avenues.

The men, ages 26 and 27, ran from the scene but were captured nearby — one on Wynnewood Avenue and the other on the Lankenau Hospital helipad.

Their names have not been released. They are reportedly being treated for injuries suffered in the crash.
