PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The trial has wrapped against a Philadelphia man charged with killing a transgender woman two years ago. The case is not so much a question of who killed her, but if it was in fact murder.

Abdullah Ibn El-Amin Jaamia faces murder, gun and tampering with evidence charges in the killing of Tracy “Mia” Green, who was shot inside a car in West Philadelphia in September 2020.

The defense argued El-Amin Jaamia picked up Green for oral sex, and Green was shot after a tussle over El-Amin Jaamia’s gun. Prosecutors, however, said he purposely shot Green four times — in the side, neck and back.

Prosecutors played a videotaped confession of the defendant admitting to shooting Green. He had originally told police on scene that she ran into the car after she was struck by a stray bullet.

The defense said El-Amin Jaamia asked for his lawyer, but detectives still spoke with him rather than calling his attorney.

Prosecutors countered that with the recording, during which the defendant said he wanted to talk to detectives without his lawyer.

Prosecutors also pointed to evidence — gunpowder residue in the car — and surveillance video of El-Amin Jaamia tossing the gun. They said he had no injuries on him to suggest a tussle.

The jury will begin deliberations Friday morning.
