PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Amy Wilson started her ice cream venture a few years ago, delivering homemade, premium flavors across Philly.
Along with partners Ryan Miller and Cathryn Sanderson, the pop-up Milk Jawn gained a lot of momentum during the pandemic, allowing the business to now settle into a brick-and-mortar home in South Philadelphia.
They had been renting a kitchen space in Kensington to make their ice cream. Miller said they will still have it but will be moving their workspace nearby.
“We are full operation right now, but we are in the process of trying to build out our new production location,” he said, “and as soon as that happens, we can move on over.”
The new, larger location, at 1439 East Passyunk Ave., will allow Milk Jawn to create more flavors, too.
“We make about 16 at a time, but if we try to get rid of one or two, people complain,” Wilson said. “They’re like, ‘Wait, you took away my favorite!’ ”
The new production kitchen will also have a takeout window.
“We’ll be able to have ice cream cakes and things that you can order there, and we may use the window to keep the pop-up spirit alive by experimental, fun desserts, like ice cream pops or milkshakes or ice cream tacos,” she said.
Wilson credits some of their success to the other businesses that hosted Milk Jawn as a pop-up shop nearly every weekend for the past year and a half, growing their online following into an actual store.
“We were just so welcomed into the pop-up food scene here in Philly and we kind of want to pay that forward,” she added.
The East Passyunk location is expected to open in the spring.
