NORRISTOWN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A Montgomery County man is in custody after authorities said he tried to hire someone to kill his ex-girlfriend and two men she had dated.

Eric Berkowitz, 41, of Upper Dublin Township, has been accused of offering a man $5,000 to kill three people who live just outside Binghamton, New York.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Berkowitz gave the man a gun, a phone and three names, telling him they would set fire to the home then shoot whoever came out, with Berkowitz adding he would “take care of the girl himself.”

Detectives say Berkowitz was in a seven-year relationship with the woman he targeted and that she’d dated the two men after that relationship ended. However, the man Berkowitz tried to hire for the murders went to the police.

He was arrested in an Uber carrying a gun, a large amount of cash and suspected crack cocaine. According to police, the Uber driver said the destination was Endicott, New York.

Berkowitz is charged with three counts of solicitation for murder and attempted murder. He’s held without bail with a preliminary hearing scheduled for later this month.
