PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Montgomery County Commissioners are recommending that people wear face masks outside starting on Monday, after they consulted with their Office of Public Health.

Their recommendation is for both those who are vaccinated and those who have not yet received a COVID-19 vaccine.

For two weeks, Montgomery County's COVID-19 case levels have resided in the high level of community transmission, based on Department of Health monitoring.

The specific recommendation is to wear a mask if you cannot stay at least six feet apart from others with whom you don't live.

The county's recommendation does not apply to those directly participating in sports events or practice.

"This includes actively participating in high intensity aerobic or anaerobic activities in well-ventilated locations and where people are able to stay at least six feet apart," a county statement said.

However, they recommend wearing a mask when not directly participating, such as when on the bench or in a locker room.

The county said they are following CDC guidelines with their recommendation. Click here for specific COVID-19 guidance from Montgomery County.
