PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — In 2023, an estimated 150,000 people were diagnosed with colon cancer. Several recent studies have found that a growing number of cases are occurring in people under the age of 50.

There is an added concern: For those under 50, colon cancer tends to be more aggressive. Obesity, alcohol use and a diet with processed meats can increase the risk.

Early warning signs include rectal bleeding, anemia and changes in bowel habits. There is good news: Colorectal cancer cases in people over 50 have been declining for the last 40 years largely due to preventative screenings like colonoscopies.
