PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A mother and her five-month-old daughter are recovering after they were shot early Sunday inside their home in West Philadelphia.

The shooting happened around 4:30 a.m. on North Robinson Street near Lansdowne Avenue.
Police said the 43-year-old woman was shot multiple times, and the infant was struck once in the leg. Both victims were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive.

The victims’ sister, Amaryiah Mathis, was there when the shots rang out.

“This morning I heard a pop pop, so I got up and went into my sister’s room. There was blood everywhere,” she said.

“My sister got up and ran into the bathroom. I was like, ‘What happened?’ She said, ‘he shot me.’”

Authorities are searching for the father of the child, Faheem Waver, in connection with the shooting. Investigators said witnesses reported the suspect drove off in a silver truck.

Mathis shared that despite the horror of it all, she believes in looking at what was gained, not lost, this holiday season.

“I’m just blessed that my sister is here to see another day,” she said.

The investigation is ongoing, and police have not released a motive.
