PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are trying to find the suspect or suspects who broke into a home in Burlington County, New Jersey and shot and killed a mother and daughter.
It happened around 4 a.m. Wednesday in the Hawthorne Park neighborhood of Willingboro.
The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office said police found the two women — 33-year-old Catherine Nunez and her mother, 54-year-old Marisol Nunez — dead in an upstairs bedroom.
Neighbors said Catherine Nunez’s young son was home at the time but wasn’t hurt.
Investigators believe one or more intruders broke in through a first-floor window. They don’t believe this is a random incident, but neighbors told NBC10 this has them really shaken up.
“She was a very nice person,” said neighbor Glenda Sprauve. “I couldn’t even sleep last night. It hurts, it hurts. And I feel so bad for her son.”
Neighbors are planning a prayer service outside the home on Harrington Circle Friday night.
Last month, a detective with the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office was shot and killed during a home invasion in her Bridgeton residence. Days later, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy signed into law harsher penalties for home invasions and burglaries in the state.
