PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A motorcycle rider has died after a crash on the Platt Bridge in Southwest Philadelphia, according to police.

The crash happened at about 3:40 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Authorities say the rider, 45, was traveling westbound on the bridge when he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a guard rail.

The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

There was no word on any other vehicles involved, or other injuries.

The scene of the crash was cleared up by 5 p.m. for drivers heading home on the post-work evening commute.

According to the Department of Transportation, around 5,000 motorcycle riders died from crashes and collisions in 2019.
