PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — At least seven cars were involved in a crash in Strawberry Mansion Monday night, and one of them rammed into a house and caused a fire.
Around 10 p.m., police said a driver in a 2019 Dodge was speeding down Ridge Avenue and hit a 2014 Subaru on Diamond Street. The SUV lost control and veered toward the sidewalk, hitting at least five other parked cars before slamming into a house.
"We heard this big kaboom," a neighbor told NBC10. "Come running out here and saw all these cars smashed up, and you hear a lady inside hollering trying to get out. We had to help her get out of there."
The SUV shattered the windows and doors of the house and even knocked out the front steps. At some point, there was a fire in the house.
Police said the SUV driver involved in the mess ran away from the scene on foot. They did not release a description of the driver.
Police said several people were taken to the hospital, including the 53-year-old driver of the Subaru and a passenger. A 36-year-old passenger in the SUV was also taken to the hospital. Their conditions have not been released.
Some of the smashed-up cars remained at the scene at 30th and Diamond streets Tuesday morning.
