PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Applications are now being accepted for up to $2 million in grants for organizations feeding the hungry in New Jersey.

This is the second phase of the state's "Sustain and Serve" program. Organizations that have been ordering food from local restaurants and donating the meals to feed people who need it are once again eligible for big money. But the grant only applies to groups that have already been doing this, not those that want to start now.

$10 millon is available statewide. The previous round of $14 million helped support the purchase of 1.5 million meals from more than 340 restaurants.

Tara Colton, with the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, said not every group that wants to help will be eligible, but they can form helpful partnerships.

"We've seen a number of cases where you have one organization that is the grantee and they purchase the meals and work with a dozen or more local community anchors to help get the meals to the community," she said.

Restaurants that want to participate must also work directly with grantees.

The NJEDA is hosting an informational webinar about the application and will answer questions on Wednesday night. More information, including a link to the webinar, can be found on their website.
