PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Rules that have allowed Philadelphia’s outdoor dining scene to flourish during the coronavirus pandemic are set to expire at the end of the year.
That is why Councilmember Allan Domb introduced two bills Thursday that would set permanent rules for sidewalk seating.
Domb observed that streeteries, as the various outdoor table arrangements have been called, have become a silver lining to the pandemic.

"Restaurants of all sizes in every neighborhood all over the city have utilized this opportunity," Domb said.
"Because of it, they were able to keep their doors open, keeping employees working in the hospitality industry and still maintain a safe and healthy environment."
Domb was not alone in feeling they should outlive the pandemic, but with more pointed attention to safety, traffic flow, transit and bike lanes.
"Along with providing accountability and enforcement tools, these bills will provide the city with the authority to remove any structure that is not up to code or is not being used as a streetery or sidewalk café space," said Domb.
