MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Drivers on one Montgomery Township road may find it a little harder to stay inside the lines, with a new wavy road design causing cars to zig-zag along.

Township police say the new lines, painted last Friday, are traffic-calming measures meant to reduce speeding along Grays Lane, between Doylestown Road and Pioneer Drive. A Facebook post from police cited complaints from residents about frequent speeding on that road.

Police say they collaborated with traffic engineers and highway safety officers to design the new pattern. Most commenters, however, did not approve. Some people suggested the township could have simply added speed bumps to Grays Lane, while other commenters said they'd likely disregard the lines and continue to drive straight.

After some commenters guessed this might have been an early April Fool's joke, officials confirmed that it was real.

"This is a legitimate precaution that has been put in place," said Ava Komasz, public information assistant for the Montgomery Township Police Department. "Our highway safety officers and traffic engineers have determined this is the best course of action for the area to ensure the safety of the local residents."
