SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) U.S. Rep. Andy Kim of New Jersey announced he is running for U.S. Senate, challenging incumbent Bob Menendez.

Menendez is facing several corruption charges for allegedly accepting bribes and working as a foreign agent on behalf of officials in Egypt.

In an announcement on social media, Kim said voters deserve someone who will fight for them in Washington, not enrich themselves.

He is the only candidate to make an official announcement so far, but Tammy Murphy, wife of Gov. Phil Murphy, is expected to enter the race soon. Her candidacy was reportedly a topic of discussion at a recent meeting of powerful South Jersey Democrats.

Menendez still maintains his innocence and says he will beat the charges when all the facts are presented.
