PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — New Jersey health officials say Gloucester County is one of five counties in the state where COVID-19 case counts are rising the fastest.
Gov. Murphy said New Jersey has seen 1,200 new COVID-19 cases over the last two days.
"We've got parts of the state that we're watching very carefully," he said at his regular coronavirus briefing.
State Health Commissioner Judy Persichilli said there's been an uptick in coronavirus cases in five New Jersey Counties, with 130 new cases in Gloucester County.
"We are keeping a close eye on increases in Gloucester County," Persichilli said. "Student housing both on and off campus at Rowan was related to the increase."
Rowan University has reported a total of 388 cases on and off campus.
"University officials have worked closely with county and our state health officials and they are seeing a significant decline in new cases," Persichilli said.
She said the state is also seeing rises in case counts in Bergen, Middlesex, Monmouth and Ocean counties. In Ocean, she said more than half of the new cases have come in Lakewood.
She said the primary age group for positive cases in Ocean and Monmouth counties were people between the ages of 18 and 29.
Murphy also announced that he had extended the state's public health emergency for an additional 30 days.
