CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A former custodian at a South Jersey elementary school faces up to eight years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday, to filming himself contaminating cafeteria food with bodily fluids and cleaning products.
Prosecutors said, Giovanni Impellizzeri, 27, put urine, bleach, and other contaminants in food for kids, and staff at the Elizabeth Moore School in the Upper Deerfield School District. Investigators say the alleged acts occurred between October and November of 2023.
Impellizzeri pled guilty to second-degree aggravated assault, tampering with food products, among other charges, and possession of child pornography charge after investigators found some illicit materials at his home in Vineland.
Investigators discovered the contaminations after a tipster directed them to videos that Impellizzeri had posted to an online chat group.
After the incidents were made public, parents were outraged, but county health officials eventually determined the health risks from Impellizzeri’s actions were minimal.
In addition to the eight years in prison, prosecutors are asking Impellizzeri to be on parole for life.
